BSC Electronics/Telecommunications hands-on workshop scheduled for July 24

Posted on 7/10/2012

The Bismarck State College Electronics/Telecommunications Technology Program is holding an open house on Tuesday, July 24 from 5-9 p.m. in room 230 of the Bismarck Public Schools Career Academy on the BSC campus.

According to Robert Arso, professor of Electronics/Telecommunications Technology, the job market is historically strong for graduates of the program, but recently demand for skilled employees has increased dramatically due to the rapid energy development in western North Dakota.

"There's a lot of fiber optic cable being laid, systems that need tending and more as the area grows. Employers need workers with the skills in telecomm and electronics that we offer," he says.

Attendees at the workshop interested in enrolling will have the first opportunity for three new $1,700 scholarships. Additional scholarship opportunities also are offered through the BSC Foundation.

The open house workshop is intended to share information about career options in the industry, necessary skills and aptitude as well as engaging potential students of all ages in the kind of hands-on work they'd do on the job.
