A veteran may be eligible for Chapter 31 benefits
if she or he incurred or aggravated a service-connected
disability on or after September 16, 1940, and is in need of
vocational rehabilitation because his or her disability creates
an employment handicap.
The DVA may pay the cost of tuition, fees, books, equipment,
and supplies. The student also receives a monthly subsistence
allowance.
This benefit may be provided for up to 48 months and generally
has 12 years from the date he/she is notified of the entitlement
to use the benefits.
Disabled veterans should contact the nearest DVA office to
obtain information and to request Form 28-1900 (Disabled Veterans
Application for Vocational Rehabilitation).
This form must be submitted to the certifying official at
BSC.
