BSC professors expect their students to know how to
use a computer to create papers and other written assignments. If
you have not had an opportunity to use a computer, we can help
you learn how to use these tools to make your college life
easier.
Computer Basics for the Beginning Computer User - a
guided tour of basic computer skills beginning with how to start
and shut down a computer. We will go through the steps of opening
programs, using the mouse, etc.
Email - designed for people who have not used email.
Find out how to open mail sent to you and how to send email to
others. You must have a BSC email account prior to asking for
this assistance.
Beginning Internet - This workshop is designed to cut
through the technical jargon and equip you with the information
you need to get started on the Internet and how to do effective
searches.
Using Microsoft Word - Microsoft Word is the word
processing program installed on the computers in the BSC open
computer labs. Learn how to create, edit, format and save
documents.
Formatting a Document Using Microsoft Word - Most BSC
faculty have preferences for how they want the documents you hand
in to look. They will specify the margin lengths, font name and
size, and where your name and page number should be located on
the paper. This workshop is designed to help students make the
changes required.
Feel free to stop by the Sykes Student Success Center at any
time for assistance with any of these topics.
Call 224-5671 to schedule an individual appointment. Group
sessions will be scheduled periodically during both fall and
spring semester.
