Schmidt serves as liaison to the department chair group for the National Energy Center of Excellence. He manages the Process Plant Technology, Petroleum Production Technology, Power Plant Technology, Water and Wastewater Technology and the Bachelor of Applied Science in Energy Management programs.
A native of Braddock, N.D., Schmidt came to BSC in 2000 as a faculty member in the Process Plant Technology program. He taught process plant courses related to gasification and refinery operations. Prior to teaching, he worked for industry 17 years as a field technician at Dakota Gasification Company in Beulah, N.D., gaining extensive experience in gasification and air separation processes.
Schmidt is a graduate of BSC with an Associate in Arts degree and a Certificate of Completion in Process Plant Technology. He later acquired a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in technology from Dickinson State University.
His campus activities include service on the Faculty Senate, Staff Senate and Operations Council.
