Because the ND OSHA Consultation Program is always voluntary, you can start the process with a formal letter, a telephone call to the department or a personal contact. Although you may request specific services to address particular concerns, and it is always your option to limit the scope of the consultation, it is usually in your best interest to opt for a comprehensive survey of your worksite. Systems and facilities are often interrelated, and unless the entire operation is working correctly, it is hard to ensure that any given part will be completely safe. Before scheduling a visit to your jobsite, the consultant will research your situation thoroughly to make sure all your concerns are addressed. However, should a consultant observe hazards that are outside the scope of your request, he or she is required to inform you of their presence.
