Agriculture department honored for excellence

Posted on 8/9/2012

The Bismarck State College Department of Agriculture received the Director's Award of Excellence from the ND Department of Career and Technical Education during the Annual Department of Career and Technical Education Professional Development Conference held in Bismarck this week.

The award acknowledges superior career and technical education programs in North Dakota. BSC's program was called out in three areas. First, the college's Agriculture, Technology and Natural Resources Club is the largest student organization on campus. Second, the department works with an advisory council made up of a diverse group of agriculture producers, agribusiness manager and members of the agriculture service sector.

"The advisory board provides us with great insight on the curriculum we need to offer, and careers our students are preparing for," says Carmel Miller, associate professor of Agriculture, Technology & Natural Resources.

Finally, the 400 hour internship required of agriculture students pursuing their AAS degrees was recognized. Students are required to complete the internship in the summer of their freshman year.
