Bradley Mitchell Shift Supervisor Tesoro Grantsville, UT
One of BSC's online students was so pleased with his education he traveled to Bismarck to attend commencement on May 9, 2008. Bradley Mitchell walked across the stage at the Bismarck Civic Center and received his Associate in Applied Science degree in Process Plant Technology.Bradley began working at Tesoro as a relief operator in 1991 and eventually was promoted to an operator. In 2005, Bradley found out about BSC's Process Plant Technology program by reading a poster that was posted in Tesoro. He started the online program that fall. During his enrollment, Bradley was promoted to operations supervisor. He believes that his enrollment in the program made a difference in his qualifications for the position. Bradley says he enjoyed the flexibility of the online courses. "The block style courses worked well for me, especially because I am on a shift schedule at Tesoro. The faculty all did a fantastic job and they really show that they care," he says. "I would recommend the program to anyone interested in a career in the process industry or for someone looking to advance within their company." Bradley recently visited with 15 of Tesoro's new operators about BSC's program and has even started a library of textbooks in his office to share with anyone who is interested in enrolling. He credits Tesoro for helping him and others by reimbursing 100% of the tuition costs for passing grades and paying for books. Paul Sitte Dakota Gasification Company Beulah, ND
Growing up in Bismarck, North Dakota, Paul Sitte always knew BSC was a reputable school with reasonable tuition. In the Spring 2007, Sitte decided to take advantage of his local school and enroll in the Process Plant Technology program. He earned his Associate degree and the payoff has been huge. After graduating in the Fall 2008 semester, Sitte started working at Tharaldson Ethanol, near Casselton, North Dakota. Most recently, he earned a position at Dakota Gasification Company, located near Beulah, North Dakota. "As one of my teachers once told me, everything from generating power or refining gas to creating paper or cleaning water for city use all uses some sort of a process. That's exactly what the process program is about. It provides students with the information so that they will be able to succeed in any part of the industry," Sitte said. When asked what he would say to others considering a career in the industry, he said, "I would strongly recommend the programs BSC has to offer. Shift work and plant life aren't for everyone, but it is a very strong industry with great possibilities for anyone who takes it seriously. The smaller classes at BSC allow students to have more one-on-one time with teachers, not only in the classroom, but in the labs, too. BSC has invested in a great new building and lots of new lab equipment to place themselves at the top of the nation in energy education." Sitte plans to enroll in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Energy Management degree program someday. |
