becoming a student
  1. Submit an application: bismarckstate.edu/prospectivestudents/application.asp.

  2. Pay the application fee.

  3. Any student who provides documented proof of active military duty status will have the fee waived. Proper documentation includes a copy of one of the following:
    - Common Access Card (CAC)
    - Military ID indicating Active Duty Status
    - Orders indicating Active Duty Status
    A copy of the documentation may be faxed to the Admissions office at 701-224-5643 or emailed to BSC.Admissions@bsc.nodak.edu.

  4. Complete Student Verification Form: click here to fill out the Student Verification form

  5. Submit transcripts:
  6. • If you have no college experience, submit official high school transcripts or GED.
    • If you have less than 24 semester hours of college credit, submit official high school
      transcripts or GED and all official college/university transcripts.
    • If you have more than 24 semester hours of college credit, submit all official
      college/university transcripts.

    All official transcripts will be accepted through www.docufide.com or www.getmytranscript.com. If that service is not available for your college(s), please request an official transcript to be sent (in a sealed envelope) by the schools to:

    Transcripts from countries other than the United States need to be evaluated by World Education Services. Please visit their website at www.wes.org. Click on Student, then Get a WES Evaluation.

  7. Complete English and Math assessment score requirements:
    BSC requires an assessment of your writing and math skills prior to admittance.

  8. On Campus - Power Plant Technology and Process Plant Technology

     If you...  You will need...
    Are under the age of 25 ACT score of 15 or higher in math
    Are over the age of 25 or have ACT scores more than 5 years old Compass score of 31 in math
    Previous completion of college level English and math courses may exempt you from this requirement. Review of transcripts will determine any exemptions.

    Online Programs - Electric Power Technology, Electrical Transmissions Systems Technology, Nuclear Power Technology, Power Plant Technology, Process Plant Technology.

     If you...  You will need...
    Are under the age of 25 ACT score of 16 or higher in math. Nuclear students need a ACT score of 19 or higher.
    Are over the age of 25 or have ACT scores more than 5 years old Compass score of 41 in math or Accuplacer of 44 in math. Nuclear students need a Compass score of 51 or a Accuplacer score of 109.
    Previous completion of college level English and math courses may exempt you from this requirement. Review of transcripts will determine any exemptions.

    Bachelor of Applied Science in Energy Management

    To enroll in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Energy Management, a student must have completed an Associate Degree, Certificate, or Diploma in an accredited and approved program in an energy related field. Previous college coursework combined with industry training and/or work experience may also be considered with departmental approval.

  9. Check your email. Upon completion of your application and submission of the application fee, you will be contacted by email within 2-3 business days.
