Students seeking an education that leads to a high-paying job in the ethanol industry have no further to look than Bismarck State College and its Process Plant Technology program.
With demand growing for renewable and alternative fuels, a career in Process Plant Technology promises job opportunities as new ethanol plants are built to process corn and other feedstocks.
The Process Plant Technology program is taught on the BSC campus and online. The block-style curriculum allows first-time students or seasoned plant employees to concentrate on one subject for up to four weeks and build skills sequentially.
Graduates enter a job with sufficient experience for energy companies to save training time and costs, says Dan Schmidt, a program manager in BSC's Energy Technology Online Department. Companies can interview students three to six months before a plant opens because they know the quality of the program, he says.
"Our graduates have an edge before even setting foot in a plant," Schmidt says. Students can earn a program certificate, diploma, or associate in applied science degree.
