After 20 years, maybe it is time for a change...
That exact thought is what went through Shawn Neidhardt's mind after hearing repeated stories of success from friends employed at local power plants in North Dakota. Neidhardt had come from a background of ranching and commercial beekeeping for 20+ years in southwestern North Dakota and although he enjoyed many aspects of those industries, he felt he was ready for a career move. Taking the opportunity of online courses to fit with his work as an industrial painter was a perfect fit for his schedule. Knowing there were tremendous opportunities in the energy industry also helped him work towards a goal that was achieved, and then some.
Neidhardt completed the Associate in Applied Science degree in Power Plant Technology in December 2004. Soon after graduation, Neidhardt was offered a position with KFX Technologies out of Gillette, Wyoming. He quickly moved up the ranks and after only 18 months, Neidhardt earned the position of plant manager. In January of 2008, he began the Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Energy Management. Neidhardt then decided to move to the electrical supply industry and completed the BAS program in August of 2009. The completion of the BAS degree also opened an opportunity to be accepted into a master's degree program. He believes that this would not have been achieved without BSC's well-structured course curriculum. To top off Neidhardt's succes, he recently accepted a plant operation supervisor position with PacifiCorp.
When asked about his experience while enrolled at BSC, Neidhardt said, "With the way the courses were structured, I was able to take them online and work full time which was critical for me to succeed. BSC's instructors and advisors were very professional and offered superior support and guidance throughout the course of the programs, which led to my successful completion and earning of both degrees."
Neidhardt added, "I would recommend BSC's program to anyone who is considering going into the energy field as a career. Lastly, I would encourage any individual to think outside the box and see the potential that is out there as far as energy is concerned."
Congratulations, Shawn! Best wishes on your future career in the energy industry!
