What is CLEP?
CLEP (College-Level Examination Program) is the most widely accepted credit-by-examination program in the United States, with more than 2,900 colleges and universities awarding credit for satisfactory scores on CLEP exams. With CLEP, a student can earn college credit for what he or she already knows - regardless of where or how that knowledge was acquired -on any of 33 CLEP examinations. A Bismarck State College student can earn up to 45 credits by achieving satisfactory scores on accepted CLEP exams.

What is DSST?
DSST is a widely accepted credit-by-examination program throughout the United States, with more than 1,900 colleges and universities awarding credit for satisfactory scores on DSST exams. For over 30 years the DSST (formerly known as DANTES) exams have provided military personnel with a head start on a post-military career path. Now with DSST any student can earn college credit for what he or she already knows. The nationally recognized DSST Program allows a student to receive college credits for learning acquired outside the traditional classroom. With 37 exams available, DSST offers students a cost effective, time saving way to use their knowledge to accomplish their educational goals. A BSC student can earn up to 45 credits by achieving satisfactory scores on accepted DSST exams.

CLEP/DSST for Military Personnel
Earn college credit free with CLEP and DSST!
Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) funds CLEP exams* for eligible military service members, spouses, and eligible civilian employees to assist military personnel in meeting their educational goals.
CLEP/DSST exams are funded by the military for members of the following groups:
Military personnel (Active Duty and Reserve) - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard, Army Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Navy Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve, Army and Air National Guard
Eligible civilian employees and spouses of participating Reserve Component and Coast Guard personnel
Department of Defense Acquisition Personnel (only eligible for the following computer-based exams: Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics and Principles of Marketing)
* Military Personnel, spouses, and eligible civilian employees qualify to take their initial CLEP or DSST exams at no cost to themselves. Retake exams are not, however, covered by DANTES.
