AN INVITATION TO EXPERIENCE YOUR COMMUNITY COLLEGE!

Join your friends, family and co-workers for a friendly, on-campus experience at North Dakota's third largest college. Bismarck State College is a uniquely Bismarck enterprise. In 1939, the people of Bismarck wanted a college and created one with a core mission to provide liberal arts transfer and technical programs. Today, BSC continues to serve the education needs of its home city while reaching beyond to the national and world community. The college also offers personal exploration and enrichment in non-credit classes, music and theater events, visual art exhibits, athletic competitions, and more. Here is just a sampling of our community-centered events:

ArtsQuest 2013

BSC packs late spring with guest artists and student talent for a month-long celebration of the performing, visual and literary arts. Enjoy headliner events and concerts by BSC choral and instrumental ensembles, a theater musical, outdoor raku firing, student art show, tie-dye, literary readings and student-directed plays. All events are open to the community and free of charge in nearly every case. ArtsQuest began in 1998 as a project of the Arts and Communication Department.

Conversations at BSC

This series has featured topics of local and regional interest presented by humanities scholar Clay Jenkinson in dialogue with BSC President Larry C. Skogen, a history specialist. Audience questions and comments complete the conversation. Programs are unrehearsed and emphasize the 360-degree perspective of the humanities lens. Funding comes in part from the North Dakota Humanities Council. For more information, visit the Conversations at BSC website.

Southwest Regional Science Olympiad

Let the games begin! Learning is fun with Microbe Mission, Awesome Aquifers, Battery Buggy, Junkyard Challenge and Storm the Castle competitions during the Southwest Regional Science Olympiad. Held each spring on campus, area students in 6th through 12th grade compete in events for awards in a college environment. BSC science faculty plan and run the Olympiad, funded by a grant from the BSC Foundation.

Visiting Scientists Series

The Visiting Scientists Series was established to educate young people and the public about science and to inspire students to pursue science as a career. Presentations also contribute resources to educators and technical organizations. BSC sponsors the public series with Bismarck Public Schools, St. Mary's Central High School, Gateway to Science, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, North Dakota Society of Professional Engineers, U.S. Geological Survey and University of Mary.

Visiting Writers Series

BSC invites writers of all literary genres to campus to share their insights with students and to present their work to the community in readings, lectures and book-signing events.
