SUSTAINABILITY TEAM PROJECTS

Projects
• Coulee project - outdoor learning center • Hydration station installed in Schafer Hall - 4,000+ refills to date
Why do we buy bottled water when tap water costs next to nothing per gallon?
Bottled water costs $1.25/bottle for 20 ounces, therefore cost per gallon comes to $8.00 which is approximately 2.29 times as expensive as the cost of gasoline (assuming $3.50/gal.)

• Annual Alternate Transportation Day • Promote and practice recycling • Annual trash pick up in areas around the BSC campus
Potential Sustainability Projects
• Biofuel use in BSC vehicles and within BSC programs and classes • Community garden (in cooperation with Bismarck Public Schools Career Academy) • Measure thermal efficiencies and calculate cost benefit analysis for thermal shades for the buildings on campus • Hydration stations in several BSC buildings • Curb-side rain-catch garden with native plantings
Sustainability Efforts on BSC Campus
• Hydration station installed in Schafer Hall • Software used by Buildings and Grounds to keep track of building energy use/cost • Sustainable Construction Technology Program • Renewable Generation Technology Program • Wind tower energy is used to partially power campus building and for energy education • Biofuel production by energy programs • Bike racks available • Phi Theta Kappa is greening the campus by collecting unwanted books and conducted paper-awareness activity resulting in paper with recycled content used at BSC
